Each November, the Griffith Law Office team reflects on what we’re thankful for — our clients, our families, and the community that allows us to do this work. This month, that gratitude runs a little deeper. November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and it’s also the season for Tyler Type One’s Run for One 5K — an event that means a great deal to our team, and especially to our founding attorney, Rachael Griffith.

A Personal Connection to the Cause

Rachael’s connection to diabetes advocacy is both professional and personal. Her husband was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as an adult, a diagnosis that changed their family’s daily rhythm and deepened their understanding of what it means to manage a lifelong condition.

“Watching someone you love navigate a health diagnosis like this gives you perspective,” Rachael says. “It reminds you how strong people can be, but also how important community support truly is.”

That understanding is part of what led Rachael to serve as President of the Board for Tyler Type One, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing education, resources, and encouragement for families living with Type 1 diabetes in East Texas. From care packages to educational outreach, the organization works year-round to make sure no family feels alone in managing the challenges of diabetes.

Run for One 5K: Awareness in Action

Every fall, Tyler Type One hosts the Run for One 5K, a family-friendly event that raises awareness and funding for diabetes education and outreach in our region. It’s more than a race — it’s a celebration of strength, perseverance, and community.

Families walk, run, and cheer together, honoring those who live with Type 1 diabetes and remembering those who’ve been affected by it. For the Griffith Law Office team, participating in this event is a reminder that advocacy doesn’t stop at the courtroom door. It extends into how we support one another, how we show up for causes that matter, and how we help build a stronger East Texas.
